Central is a flourishing church of deep disciples of Jesus in a moment of significant dechurching and faith deconstruction. What are we to make of that fact and what are we to do in light of it?

First, 2023 was a phenomenal year at Central, by a myriad of metrics — and God deserves all the glory! What a comfort it is that Jesus said He would build His Church (Matt. 16:18) and two thousand years of church history are a testament to that. And yet that does not mean that every local church flourishes. In fact, it is estimated that more than 9000 places of worship across Canada will close by 2029 — that’s roughly a third of all church buildings in our nation. In their book, The Great Dechurching, Jim Davis and Michael Graham explain that we are experiencing the largest and fastest religious shift in North American history. It is faster than the First and Second Great Awakenings and revivals combined, but in the opposite direction. People are leaving the church (and the faith) at an alarming rate.

One of the things that the Bible does is remind us of God’s grace in the past, which is also a way of encouraging us to trust in Him in the future. The purpose of our Annual Report is two-fold: First, to celebrate the life-transformation that has happened at Central this past year. Second, to challenge us to look ahead to 2024 with the prayer and expectation that God will do even greater things in our midst.

Our church gave more than ever before toward our annual budget; your generosity in giving was nothing short of miraculous. Praise the One who calls us on mission and provides for our every need along the way!

2024 looks to be another huge year of transformation! Thank you for being such a vital part of Central Community Church. And thanks again for partnering locally and globally with us in the gospel!
