THE BETHLEHEM CANDLE
THE LIGHT OF PREPARATION
Theme:
Peace in God's Plan
Scripture Reading:
- Luke 2:1–7 | Jesus is born in Bethlehem.
- Micah 5:2–5a | From Bethlehem will come a Saviour to lead God’s people.
- Further Reading | The birth in Bethlehem set the table for the humble, servant-hearted, self-sacrificing ministry of Jesus: Matthew 20:28, 23:11-12; John 13:3-5, 15:13; Galatians 6:2; Philippians 2:5–8.
Devotional
God chose an unlikely place for the Saviour’s birth—Bethlehem, a small and humble town. It was not grand or powerful, but it was where God’s plan unfolded perfectly. The journey to Bethlehem reminds us that God often works through simple, quiet, and even difficult circumstances to bring about His purposes.
In Bethlehem, the Prince of Peace was born into a world of conflict and need. God was preparing the way for peace—not through power, but through humility. Jesus came as one of us, born in a manger, to bring us peace with God.
Reflection Questions:
- Why is it significant that the birth of Christ in the little town of Bethlehem both connects to Kingship and humility?
- What does it mean that Jesus brought peace through humility?
- How can you make room for Jesus in your hearts and home this week?
- When have you seen God working through something seemingly inconsequential or unexpected?
Application:
Sometimes God’s plans don’t look the way we expect, but they are always good. Think about how you can prepare your heart for Jesus—by slowing down, serving others, and trusting God’s wisdom in every detail.
Prayer:
“Lord, thank You that You work through humble places and quiet moments. Help us to prepare our hearts for You. Bring Your peace into our home and our world. Amen.”
